2026-09-14: Restarting regular ministry updates

Summary

I’m going to start posting ministry updates again. (Hopefully consistently).

Where have I been?

I haven’t made a formal ministry update in quite a long time now. I kept trying to be comprehensive in documenting everything that happened, and that perfectionism kept holding me back from just posting more stream-of-consciousness updates.

I’m going to try to stop letting that get in the way, and just post what I can, even if it is decidedly less polished and complete overall. (In the spirit of “don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good”).

At some point I’ll try to post updates about all the things that happened in the communication gap of the last couple years (since I do have a backlog of partially-written-up things that happened in that time), but for now, I’m just going to shoot for much better consistency in posting current progress.

Updates to the prayer-lists project

Updated my Python application to build prayer lists automatically:

  • Split Ichthys prayer list between morning and evening prayer times, and changed to praying through the whole list daily, rather than only part of it daily.
  • Updated randomization so it would only happen after splitting, so that what prayer requests end up morning vs. evening will remain preserved even when randomizing the order. This lets you generate the new prayer lists at any point in the day (including in between morning and evening prayer times) without having the potential to have randomization cause you to pray for the same thing twice in the same day.

Lots of process refinement, in terms of content production

I have decided to keep the messy technical specifics separate from ministry updates, so that people who aren’t interested in them don’t have to do extra work to avoid them. If you are actually interested in reading about them, you can go read the blog posts on the new design site I launched.
