Live content

The live content on this site comes from Bible study meeting weeks wherein I cover topics or answer questions live, without anything more than a simple outline or collection of subjects prepared beforehand. The fact that this sort of content is recorded live without having slides pre-prepared means it is substantially less structured overall.

How do we keep our spiritual focus in this world of noise and distraction? What practical steps can we take to keep our eyes on heavenly things and not get lost in the cares and concerns of this present life? Satan has devised a world system designed to play on our sin natures, to distract and turn us away from God, but the Bible gives us instructions on how to effectively fight this spiritual war. Believers are God’s soldiers, involved in a spiritual life and death struggle that is even more dangerous than a physical battle. We ought to make full use of the ways God has given us to reorient our hearts – such as prayer and meditating on God’s Word – to do our very best to live a life that pleases our Savior and earns a “Well done!” from Him when our fight is won.

In this lesson we discuss the topic of prayer. What does James 5:16 mean when it mentions “the prayer of a righteous person”? How should we pray for concerns that weigh very heavily on our hearts, such as the salvation and spiritual growth of our children? Does God arbitrarily answer the prayers of some believers more than others?

All believers have direct access to God through prayer, and we are directed in scripture to pray boldly and persistently. As we mature spiritually, we come to better understand God’s character and Will, and our prayers will become more effective since we are more likely to pray in accordance with God’s Will.
