Genesis 1:1 (in the original Hebrew and Greek Septuagint both) and John 1:1 do not have direct articles, meaning the texts read "a beginning" not "the beginning." This supports the idea that the beginning referred to is the beginning of God's actions regarding the material universe, not the beginning of the material universe itself. Making this clear guarantees that people properly understand that God transcends space and time (things of His own creation), rather than Himself being somehow bound by the material universe.

As Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us, salvation most assuredly does come by grace through faith (and not by works). However, this does not mean that all Christians will end up with the same level of reward in eternity. Quite to the contrary, the Bible is very clear that those who render more disinguished service with what they have been given in this life will be rewarded in proportion to their true commitment to the Lord. The goal of this page is to briefly put forward some of the scriptural evidence for this concept and deal with some common objections.
